Germany
Three-carrier market: Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone Germany, Telefonica Germany (O2). Strong urban coverage in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt. Rural coverage improving under federal spectrum obligations. Telekom holds strongest rural coverage position. Nine land borders make carrier partnership quality important for travelers with extensive itineraries.
France
Four-carrier market: Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Free Mobile. Highly competitive. Paris: excellent 5G coverage. Major tourist regions well-served. Alpine and Pyrenean regions: variable coverage. French overseas territories (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Reunion) not covered by standard European plans.
Spain
Four-carrier market: Movistar, Vodafone Spain, Orange Spain, MasMovil. Strong urban coverage in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville. 5G expanding rapidly. Canary Islands and Balearic Islands: verify explicit inclusion in plan terms. Interior rural regions: variable coverage.
Italy
TIM, Vodafone Italy, WindTre, Iliad Italy. Strong urban coverage in Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Naples. Sicily and Sardinia covered by most plans; verify explicitly. Alpine regions: valley floors well-served, high-altitude areas limited. Tuscany and Umbria well-served for tourism.
Netherlands
KPN, Vodafone Netherlands, T-Mobile Netherlands. Consistently among Europe's best-connected countries. Near-universal 4G coverage with extensive 5G deployment. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht offer excellent connectivity. Excellent hub for multi-country Western European itineraries.
Belgium
Proximus, Orange Belgium, Base/Telenet. Compact geography produces strong nationwide coverage. Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent well-served. Key transit hub for Western European rail connections.
Austria
A1 Telekom, Magenta, Drei. Strong urban coverage in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck. Alpine terrain creates coverage challenges; ski resort areas often improved due to tourist demand.
Czech Republic
T-Mobile CZ, O2 CZ, Vodafone CZ. Prague exceptionally well-connected. Solid nationwide coverage across Bohemia and Moravia. Reliable destination for connectivity-dependent travelers.
Poland & Portugal
Poland: rapid infrastructure investment; Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk well-served. Portugal: competitive market; Lisbon, Porto, Algarve strong; interior and Azores more variable.
